Preparing for birth can bring a mixture of emotions.
Excitement.
Nervousness.
Overwhelm.
Fear of the unknown.
And sometimes all of them at once.
No matter how many books you read or how many conversations you have, there’s something incredibly vulnerable about preparing for a moment you can’t fully predict or control.
That’s one of the biggest reasons we created our birth plan printables.
Not because birth always goes exactly to plan — but because feeling informed, organised, and prepared can help make the process feel a little less overwhelming.
We Wanted to Take Some of the Stress Out of Planning
When preparing for birth, we realised there were so many things we didn’t even know we were supposed to think about.
Things like:
- comfort preferences during labor
- who we wanted in the room
- newborn procedures
- feeding preferences
- c-section considerations
- postpartum wishes
- what mattered most if plans suddenly changed
And when you’re already emotional, hormonal, tired, or anxious, trying to think through all of those decisions at once can feel incredibly overwhelming.
We wanted something that helped organise those thoughts gently and clearly — without adding more stress.
Sometimes Preparation Helps Ease the Fear
One of the hardest parts about birth can be the uncertainty.
The “what ifs.”
The fear of unexpected changes.
The worry about things not going how we imagined.
And while no printable or checklist can remove those fears completely, we found that preparation helped us feel calmer and more grounded.
Not because we could control every outcome — but because we could feel more mentally and emotionally prepared for different possibilities.
Sometimes simply having conversations beforehand and writing things down can make scary things feel a little less unknown.
Birth Plans Aren’t Just for One Type of Birth
One thing we care deeply about is making sure parents know birth plans are not only for “perfect” natural births.
Our printables were designed to support many different journeys, including:
- public or private hospital births
- c-sections (planned or unexpected)
- natural or medicated births
- midwife-supported births
- holistic approaches
- first-time or experienced parents
- whether you’re doing this with a partner or by yourself
Because every birth experience deserves thoughtful preparation and support.
We Wanted Them to Feel Calm, Not Clinical
There’s already enough information overload during pregnancy.
That’s why we designed our birth plans to feel:
- simple
- clear
- supportive
- calming to look at
- easy to fill in by hand
Because even small details can help things feel a little more peaceful during such a big season of life.
And If Things Don’t Go to Plan…
Please remember this:
Changing plans do not mean failure.
Needing support does not mean failure.
Having a birth experience that looks different to what you imagined does not mean failure.
Birth plans are not about creating perfection.
They’re about helping you feel heard, informed, prepared, and supported wherever possible.
And sometimes, that reassurance alone can make all the difference.
